Royal Ascot
This year will be the three hundred year anniversary of the Ascot Racecourse, famous for the high
fashion of Ladies Day and of course some of the best racing in the world that it hosts annually. The
first race to take place at Ascot was Her Majesty’s plate and the prize money was 100 guineas. That
was in 1711 though and last year the prize money totalling £4 million and is unrivalled in racing
circles for the rich tradition, heritage and the royal Patronage it enjoys as a national institution and
possibly the world’s premier horseracing event.
The best thoroughbred racehorses in the world compete there each year in the Royal Ascot event
that takes place this year between 14th June to the 18th June 2011 and consists of a total of 17
different racing groups. Some of the highlights of each day are:
The James Palace Stakes and the Queen Anne Stake on day one followed by the Prince Anne Stakes
and Royal Hunt Cup on day two
Royal Ascot Gold Cup and of course Ladies day on the third day followed by the Coronation stakes on
day four.
The final day of the Royal Ascot racing event has the Golden Jubilee stakes, the Wokingham Stakes
and the Queen Alexandra stakes to thrill racegoers.
For new and regular racegoers alike it is a truly memorable experience and event that has always
had close links to the Royal family since it’s beginning three hundred years ago, being owned by the
Crown and
